(This is a picture of a Shad’s otolith or ear bone.) Close followers of ScienceCheerleader.com are aware of my fascination with the Shad. Managed to feature this near-extinct fish in a science policy paper , a folksy radio documentary, and a (short) environment article in Discover Magazine (june ’09) reaching more than 7 million readers.
Wish I could say there are some updates to add, that things are looking up for the shad, but that’s not the case….yet.
