The New England Patriots cheerleaders participated in Project MERCCURI: a citizen science research project presented by Science Cheerleader, SciStarter, UC Davis, NanoRacks and Space Florida, to collect microbes from stadiums and other landmarks as well as from shoes and cell phones and compare them to microbes on the International Space Station. Up to 40 samples will be sent to the Space Station this winter for a growth rate study. Learn more about the significance of this project here: SpaceMicrobes.org
Special thanks to Patriots cheerleader Kelly, for helping to facilitate this! Kelly is pursuing her PhD in cognitive neuroscience and we’re so happy to count her among the Science Cheerleaders.
